About Us

Welcome to Brownell and Kvamsing Lakes

Peaceful tranquility, clear blue waters, and bountiful catches of Northern Pike and Walleye await you at our three cabins on Brownell Lake, or our single outpost cabin on Kvamsing Lake.

The camp has welcomed guests for decades, and the current ownership has operated the camp for six years. After a short 15-20 minute floatplane flight you will find comfortable cabins with screened-in decks overlooking tranquil blue water. Both camps offer hot showers, flush toilets, a filleting shack with fridge and freezer, fishing boats, and an emergency cell phone booster that may allow limited cell service depending on your carrier and conditions.

Building on the legacy of Ted Ohlsen, these are self-serve camps with an optional guiding service. An experienced and friendly guide is available to show you local secret fishing holes, fillet your fish, and create a shore lunch for you to enjoy. These beautiful lakes surrounded by nature are also a photographer's paradise. Local nesting eagles, moose, and the iconic loon are regularly seen in the area.

It is our commitment to have you arrive as a guest and leave as a friend.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Light Housekeeping?

Light housekeeping means guests bring their own food, bedding, sleeping bag, pillow, towels, clothing, personal supplies, fishing gear, and tackle. Cabins include basic cooking supplies, dishes, cooking surfaces, fridge, freezer, BBQ, propane, boats, motors, fuel, life jackets, paddles, maps, hot showers, flush toilets, fish cleaning areas, and camp amenities. Guests are responsible for their own meals and for leaving the cabin clean for the next group. The 75 lb per person limit on the plane includes all food, fishing gear, bedding, and clothing.

What is the cancellation policy?

If cancelled before final payment, your deposit is non-refundable if departure is less than 90 days away. If more than 90 days away, your deposit can be applied to another booking within one year. If cancelled after final payment, no refund is issued. Final payment is due in full 30 days prior to departure.

When is the best time to book?

Every month of the season offers different conditions. Late June through August is ideal if you prefer warmer weather. Late August offers stunning fall colours. Early June is prime for Walleye. Trophy Northern Pike are best in June and mid-July through August. You will not be disappointed at any point in the season.

Do I need a fishing guide?

You do not need a guide. Most guests prefer to explore the lakes on their own. With these lakes, dropping a hook almost anywhere gives you an excellent chance to get a bite. However, an experienced and friendly guide is available with advance notice if you would like help finding secret fishing holes, filleting fish, or preparing a shore lunch.

How many guests are in camp with me?

We keep it intimate. Maximum 18 guests at Brownell Lake (6 per cabin across 3 cabins). Maximum 6 guests at Kvamsing Lake (1 cabin with 6 beds). You can reserve all of Brownell Lake for a group of 12. Minimum group of 4 for Kvamsing Lake.

Is there a fuel limit for boats?

No. Fish 100 feet off the dock for an hour or explore all day. We do encourage responsible fuel use to keep these lakes pristine for generations to come.

Do I need a fish finder?

You do not need one. It is nearly impossible not to find fish here. We provide detailed laminated fisheries maps. If you do bring one, an inexpensive simple finder that performs basic depth readings is all you need.

Is there internet or cell service at camp?

There are cell boosters at camp, which may allow limited cell service or limited internet access depending on your carrier, device, and conditions. Service is not guaranteed, so guests should prepare to be offline. The boosters are primarily for emergency safety communication. Consider this your chance to truly disconnect and enjoy the wilderness.

Are there laundry facilities?

No laundry facilities, so bring ample clothing for all weather conditions. Please do not wash clothes in the lake as soap is harmful to the fish.
